If you want to securely delete files on your computer then Clean Disk Security is an easy to use and very efficient tool to use. If you hit delete on a file, it only removes the directory entry on that object, but the data still remains on your hard disk until such time when it gets overwritten. Using this tool it will permanently remove the data.

Clean Disk Security also removes internet browsing history, temporary files, clipboard entries and the recycle bin. The configurable options available provide a choice of how you would like to remove the files, e.g. the method to be employed.

The only issue with the version we tested was that it is designed for Internet Explorer, and thus if you use any other browser, then removal of internet history for the additional browser's does not work. Although it was worth noting that later versions have support for other browsers.

Considering £63 for perpetual license we think you should look at alternatives, like GnuPG for Mac and GPGMail for Mac to offer same functionality for zero cost.

PGP Corporation has recognised the need for Mac based products and recently released a new version that finally supports whole disk encryption. Before, users could only rely on FileVault, Mac OS X's built-in technology, to protect data. We reviewed this product in several categories as it offers functionality of secure email, IM, file and disk encryption all in one package.

The installation of PGP is rather easy as you would expect from Mac based product. Configuration of whole disk encryption was really easy and full encryption of 250 GB HDD took around 9 hours and we could easily continue using the operating system. Unfortunately for users, PGP messaging is rather difficult and confusing to setup. We used Apple Mail with Google account to send and receive emails, we envisage this a typical setup. PGP software correctly discovered this email setup but did not finish configuration fully and a lot of tweaking was necessary to be able to send and receive emails. Consequently our iPhone stopped receiving Gmail emails. We think PGP should do more to bring software to the standard that Mac users are used to.

Once configured the product does not sit in a way and does what it says you would expect. We did not see any impact on computer performance.

Considering £95 for perpetual license we think there is some value for money. Buy it if you have valuable data on your laptop and need to protect whole disk. Otherwise you can try PGP Desktop Home.

PGP has a great name in data protection. This product is aimed at home users that want to protect their email communication and files on their computers.

The product installation was smooth and quick. Users need to create new pair of PGP keys or import their old ones, in order to secure their emails. Protecting files on your computer is done by two methods. First one works by encrypting each individual files, which can be impractical for large number of file. Therefore we recommend using the Vault feature to a create secure safe for your files. This vault then looks as an ordinary removable disk to your operating system.

There are not many configurable options, and users may sometimes be confused by email policies. Because the product works behind the scenes when dealing with emails, it has problems with securing some well known email services, like Gmail, and needs special configuration.

The application has not put noticeable load on the computer
